A tenacious computer worm which has wriggled its way onto machines worldwide is set to evolve on April Fool's Day, becoming harder to exterminate but not expected to wreak havoc. A task force assembled by Microsoft has been working to stamp out the worm, referred to as Conficker or DownAdUP, and the US software colossus has placed a bounty of 250,000 dollars on the heads of those responsible for the threat.

IBM will cut about 5,000 jobs in the United States, adding to similarly large cuts in the past few months, sources with knowledge of IBM the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.
The job cuts will account for over 4 percent of IBM's US workforce, which totaled around 115,000 at the end of 2008. The sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly on the issue, said the cuts will mostly be in IBM's global services business, which includes outsourcing and consulting services.

British reality television star Jade Goody, who won the nation's heart with her rags-to-riches success and her very public battle with cervical cancer, died Sunday aged 27.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown led the tributes to the mother-of-two, who lived her adult life in the spotlight but died in her sleep at home at 03:14 am (0314 GMT), with husband Jack Tweed and mother Jackiey Budden by her side.

Five Indian soldiers and two Muslim rebels were killed in a gunbattle in Kashmir on Sunday, police said, a day after Pakistani and Indian troops traded fire across the de facto border.
The deaths came during some of the fiercest fighting for months and follow Saturday's cross-border firing that left one Indian soldier dead.
The fighting on Sunday erupted in northern Kupwara district as Indian troops launched a search operation in thick forest.

Bill Gates retains the title, "The richest man on the world", in a recent assessment by Forbes Magazine. In these troubled days of business, the billionaires across the world has lost billions of dollars. While 1125 people have found there place in the billionaires list in 2008, year 2009 has accounted for only 793 people.
Due to the recession, Bill Gates lost 18 Billion in value and yet topped the list with a net worth of 40 billion dollars. With a net asset of 37 Billion, Warren Buffet stands in the 2nd place where he lost 25 billion dollars in the last year.

Shrugging off the T20 defeats, India bounced back with a solid batting display to spank New Zealand by 53 runs on the basis of Duckworth-Lewis method in the rain-marred first Cricket one-dayer and take 1-0 lead in the five-match series in Napier on Tuesday.
India rode on skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's unbeaten 84 and blistering half-centuries by Virender Sehwag (77) and Suresh Raina (66) to rattle up 273 for 4 in 38 overs and then put up a disciplined bowling performance to prevent the Kiwis from upstaging them.

Tata Motors said the booking for its small car Nano, touted as the cheapest in the world, in India would begin as per schedule in the second week of next month.
"The booking for Nano is not being advanced and would begin as per the stated schedule in second week of April," a Tata Motors spokesperson said.
Reacting to comments made by some officials of the company, the spokesperson said they might have mixed-up between the launch and booking dates.

The general elections to the 15th Lok Sabha will be held in five phases, on April 16, 23 and 30, and May 7 and 13. A total of 714 million voters — an increase of 43 million over the 2004 elections — will elect 543 members.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N. Gopalaswami, along with Election Commissioners Navin Chawla and S.Y. Quraishi, told a press conference here on Monday that counting of votes was scheduled for May 16 and the results would be announced the same day. The entire poll process would be completed by May 28.
